A Georgian hardstone cameo ring

A Georgian hardstone cameo ring, the oval banded hardstone plaque, finely carved in high relief to depict the profile of a man to a mottled brown background, signed WEDER, rubover set within a yellow gold open back mount with ridged detail to the rim, to a tapered yellow gold shank, gross weight 14.98 grams, circa 1790. The master gem engraver Giovanni Battista Weder was born in Rome 1742, and is known to have created pieces for Pope Pius VI and Catherine the Great's court.
